This work was granted the Acacia Award and acquired by the Acacia Art Collection in 2008.
The work concerns the Aboriginal Stolen Generation. The over-sized office stamp refers to the bureaucracy that shaped the lives of so many children and their families and communities. The simple monotonous action of stamping is so terrifically out of proportion to the consequences it rendered. The stamp attempts to be officious and powerful in all its red shiny glory yet its comic scale makes it unusable and ridiculous. Carrying a message of apology, the stamp asks viewers to consider the impact and value of sentiments conveyed in such a depersonalised manner. A Hard Day at the Office exposes the human experience of government policies.
