Curley Gate
reclaimed steel junk
One of the main entrance points to the community is the airstrip. When visitors arrive in Warburton at the airstrip the first building they encounter on their way to the community is the Youth Arts Centre. We felt that it was important to mark out the arts centre as a special place in the community and also to create a feature that would draw visitors to it. To this end I designed and built the Curley Gate and a blue Bush Turkey sculpture that greets people at the bottom of the hill before they ascend and pass through the Curley Gate. Both these works were made using discarded steel machinery parts and other junk metal collected from around the community.
