Wilurarra Creative Residency 2009
In June of 2009 I was an artist in residence at Wilurarra Creative, an arts project for young adults in the Aboriginal community of Warburton on the Ngaanyatjarraku lands in Western Australia. During this time I taught welding and metalwork skills to the young men and women of the community and led collaborative sculptural and landscape design projects. We created a number of large sculptural gateways for the art centre as well as seating, stages and shade sails. In collaboration with senior artist Lalla Ward I assisted in teaching the metalwork aspects of a wirra making workshop (wirras are digging bowls used in traditional food gathering practices). For further information on this project and other projects run by Wilurarra Creative visit their website which is listed in my Links page.
