This is a self obliterating text wall work and performance piece that was conceived during a collaborative project run by Sandra Bridie. Sorry was performed/created at the opening night event of Lateral Investigations held at the George Paton Gallery at Melbourne University in 2008. The project basically involved artists moving away from their traditional "comfort zone" materials and methods and trying something new; in essence making a lateral investigation of their practice. Sorry realates to a seires of text based works I created during 2008 which concerned speeches by Australian politicians around issues such as the Stolen Generation and Aboriginal sovereignty. This work asks questions about the governmental apology to the Stolen Generation and whether words are enough, whether in fact they hold meaning alone and in themselves?
