The sculpture Hand of Truth references the Boab trees of remote Western Australia, some of which became notorious as "prison trees" where Aboriginal prisoners were held until they could be transferred to regular jails in larger urban centres. The sculpture explores history at the margins, the shadowy aspects that settler Australians would rather not face but which go to the heart of who we are.
